Abstract

 A one pot synthesis of quinazolinone derivatives from the reaction of anthranilic acid and primary aromatic amines  with Vilsmeier reagent (DMF/POCl3) has been carried out. The methodology is environmentally benign and completely eliminates the need of solvent for the reaction. Neat reactants were cyclocondensed under microwaves to afford the reaction occurred in a few minutes using microwave assisted  providing excellent yields. Their structures have been elucidated on the basis of elemental analyses and spectroscopic studies (IR, 1H-NMR, MS)
