Abstract

Firecracker injuries can cause serious and irreparable damage to vision. In India firecracker injuries are common during the festival of Deepavalii where traditionally bursting of firecrackers form an essential part of the celebrations. We report a series of firecracker injuries during the three day celebration of Deepavali to highlight the importance of firecrackers as a cause of ocular injuries in India. Vast majority of casualities occur in children under the age of fifteen and the eye is involved more frequently than any other part of the body. Studies on such injuries are rare in literature and hence a study has been made to analyse the effects of these injuries on the eye.
