Nanoparticle technology plays a key role in providing opportunities and possibilities for
the development of a new generation of sensing tools. Nanoparticles can be integrated
with ligands, imaginable and therapeutic agents and other functionalities for site specific
drug delivery and cellular uptake. A simple, green method was developed for the
synthesis of gold nanoparticles (GNPs) by reducing chloroauric acid (HAuCl4) with
different plant extracts and microbes (such as fungus, bacteria). Gold nanoparticles can
be functionalized with protein, peptides and nucleic acidwhich have a great application
in drug, gene and protein delivery. The review provides a brief description of green
synthesis of gold nanoparticles and its applications.
