Abstract

Synthesis of a series of new 1, 3, 2- dioxaphosphinane derivatives (3a-j) was accomplished. The key step in the synthesis of 3a-j involves the cyclization reaction of tris (hydroxy methyl) nitromethane (1) with P(X)Cl(X=S,O) in presence of TEA in THF at 40-45 °C to afford the phosphoryl mono chloride intermediate (2). The intermediate (2) when treated with different substituted aromatic amines and with a few substituted phenols in situ in the presence of TEA at 0-15 °C afforded 3a-j. The structures of 3a-j were established by IR, NMR (1H, 13C and 31P) and Mass spectral data and elemental analysis. All these compounds exhibited good antimicrobial activity.
