<title><b>Assessment of Drug Utilization Pattern of Antihypertensive Drugs in A Tertiary Care Hospital and Achievement of Blood Pressure Goal</b></title>
High blood pressure is the one of the leading cause of death and anti-hypertensive being the choice of medical care. So it is vital to see the effectiveness of the medication being employed and whether the patient is achieving their BP goals in step with the Joint National Committee-8 guidelines. As reported 26% of the world? population has hypertension and the expected rate is going to increase. The aim of the current study was to evaluate the prescribing pattern of antihypertensive drugs and their compliance with JNC- 8 guidelines. The objective was to evaluate the prescribing pattern, risk factors and BP goals achieved by the patients under the study. The study was a prospective data-based study that was disbursed within the patient department of internal medicine for six months. A total of 346 patients were screened and 203 were enrolled in the study as per the inclusion criteria and exclusion criteria. Those admitted for treatment of hypertension and associated complications as an inpatient, freshly diagnosed as being hypertensive, and patients of both sex and age above 18 years were included in the study. Within the study carried out, 203 cases were collected. Of these, 104 (51%) were males and 99 (49%) were females. Among the varied Anti-hypertensive medical care calcium Channel Blockers were largely prescribed and most patients underwent monotherapy (52.7%). In step with JNC eight guidelines, 81.7% of patients have achieved the BP goals once the medical care is given. Among calcium channel blockers, Amlodipine (53.69%) was most often used. Management of hypertension as per the JNC- 8 guidelines is more effective in achieving primary BP goals in CKD patients. Antihypertensive drugs must be selected in such a fashion that they should be safe and should not worsen concomitant comorbid diseases.
