<title><b>Extraction, identification and biological evaluation of trigonella foenum graceum seed extract</b></title>
The dried seeds of Trigonella lessThan i greaterThan foenum graceum lessThan /i greaterThan used for the study were procured locally. They were successively extracted with ethanol. The therapeutic dose of the extract was calculated after carrying acute oral toxicity studies in rats. Extract was tested for their anti diabetic activity in alloxan induced diabetic rats. These parameters were assessed for Fasting blood glucose levels at 7 lessThan sup greaterThan th lessThan /sup greaterThan , 14 lessThan sup greaterThan th lessThan /sup greaterThan and 21 lessThan sup greaterThan st lessThan /sup greaterThan day in alloxan induced rats. Oral glucose tolerance test was done on 8 lessThan sup greaterThan th lessThan /sup greaterThan , 15 lessThan sup greaterThan th lessThan /sup greaterThan and 22 lessThan sup greaterThan nd lessThan /sup greaterThan day in alloxan induced rats.Ethanolic extracts of trigonella foenum graceum seeds (100 and 200 mg/kg) showed significant effect in blood glucose lowering activity and improved the oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) in short term (7 lessThan sup greaterThan th lessThan /sup greaterThan day) and long term (14 lessThan sup greaterThan th lessThan /sup greaterThan day and 21 lessThan sup greaterThan st lessThan /sup greaterThan day) repeated administration in alloxan induced diabetic rats. The above studies showed that ethanolic extract of Trigonella lessThan i greaterThan foenum graceum lessThan /i greaterThan seeds produces potent anti-diabetic activity on repeated administration and also showed the anti bacterial activity the by inhibiting the growth of E.coli.
