IN VITRO EVALUATION OF ANTI-OXIDANT PROPERTY OF TAPENTADOL
Our main objective of this study was to evaluate the antioxidant properties of Tapentadol. Antioxidant properties were evaluated using lessThan i greaterThan In Vitro lessThan /i greaterThan DPPH [2, 2-diphenyl-1-picryl hydrazyl] and Nitric oxide free radical scavenging assays. Tapentadol was taken in the following concentrations 50 mg/ml, 25 mg /ml, 12.5 mg /ml, 6.25 mg /ml, 3.125 mg /ml while Ascorbic acid was used as Standard. Tests were performed in triplicate and results are expressed as Mean Tapentadol exhibits good dose dependent antioxidant activity at concentrations 50 mg/ml, 25 mg /ml, 12.5 mg /ml, 6.25 mg /ml, 3.125 mg /ml. Antioxidant activity is better in Nitric oxide free radical scavenging assay when compared to DPPH free radical scavenging assay which may point out radical specific scavenging activity of Tapentadol. Both DPPH and NO free Radical scavenging assays demonstrate that Tapentadol has antioxidant properties. The antioxidant property may be explored along with its established analgesic activity in chronic diseases.
