IN VITRO ASSESMENT OF FUNGITOXICITY OF CINNAMON BARK OIL AGAINST ASPERGILLUS SPP.
The fungitoxic properties of vapours of essential oil extracted from Cinnamon ( lessThan i greaterThan Cinnamomum zeylanicum lessThan /i greaterThan Breyn) bark have been investigated against five species of lessThan i greaterThan Aspergillus viz. A. flavus lessThan /i greaterThan Link lessThan i greaterThan , A. fumigatus lessThan /i greaterThan Fresenius lessThan i greaterThan , A. nidulans lessThan /i greaterThan (Eidam) Wingate lessThan i greaterThan , A. niger lessThan /i greaterThan van Tiegham and lessThan i greaterThan A. terreus lessThan /i greaterThan Thom, causing biodeterioration of paper manuscripts in Gorakhpur. The fungitoxicity was determined lessThan i greaterThan in vitro lessThan /i greaterThan as minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC), minimum lethal concentration (MLC) and inoculum density sustained at MIC and higher doses (fungicidal or fungistatic nature). It is concluded that this oil is effective against all the five selected species of lessThan i greaterThan Aspergillus lessThan /i greaterThan and can be recommended for further lessThan i greaterThan in vivo lessThan /i greaterThan investigations against lessThan i greaterThan Aspergillus lessThan /i greaterThan spp. It is also suggested that the oil should be tested lessThan i greaterThan in vitro lessThan /i greaterThan and lessThan i greaterThan in vivo lessThan /i greaterThan against species of lessThan i greaterThan Aspergillus lessThan /i greaterThan causing diseases in birds, animals and humans too, in order to explore the possibility of their use as a chemotherapeutic agent.
