ANTIMICROBIAL EFFICACY OF BLECHNUM ORIENTALE L.
The antimicrobial property in the extracts of lessThan i greaterThan Blechnum orientale lessThan /i greaterThan L. has been evaluated on clinically isolated bacterial pathogens such as lessThan i greaterThan Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Salmonella typhi, Mycobacterium luteus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa lessThan /i greaterThan and lessThan i greaterThan Escherichia coli. lessThan /i greaterThan Also the antifungal activity was tested on lessThan i greaterThan Candida albicans lessThan /i greaterThan and lessThan i greaterThan Aspergillus flavus. lessThan /i greaterThan The pet-ether, chloroform, methanol and aqueous extracts were used for the study of antimicrobial activity by agar well diffusion, micro titre method and tube dilution methods. Results indicated that all the four extracts were effective against lessThan i greaterThan E. coli lessThan /i greaterThan , lessThan i greaterThan P. aeruginosa lessThan /i greaterThan and lessThan i greaterThan C. Albicans, lessThan /i greaterThan . Aqueous extract showed relatively higher zone of inhibition against lessThan i greaterThan E. coli, P. aeruginosa lessThan /i greaterThan and lessThan i greaterThan C. albicans lessThan /i greaterThan while lessThan i greaterThan S. aureus, B. subtilis, S. typhi, M. luteus lessThan /i greaterThan and lessThan i greaterThan A. flavus lessThan /i greaterThan were not found to be sensitive to all the extracts.
